The completion of the non-permanent membership of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council was marked by another significant event of an international character. Continuing the successful preparation and deployment of the Kazakh contingent to the UNIFIL mission, on January 2, 2019, the Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, has signed two certificates of training recognition that conforms the “UN Protection of Civilians Course” and the “UN Staff Officers Course” conducted by the KAZCENT are relevant to UN Peacekeeping Pre-deployment Standards.
The high regional status and the possibility of conducting certified UN courses will not only allow involving representatives from the Central-Asian region, but also from the entire international community. The whole range of activities carried out by Kazakhstan will serve as a guarantor of firm intentions in strengthening regional and international security.
From December 3rd to 14th, 2018, UN Expert Lieutenant Colonel Saidu Tafida made an assessment visit to KAZCENT to check courses for compliance with UN requirements and standards. Courses were highly appreciated by the Expert and, as a result, got positive recommendations for subsequent certification.
Two fruitful years in the UN Security Council demonstrated the intentions of Kazakhstan to further strengthen its peacekeeping potential and actively promote its participation in peacekeeping operations under the UN auspices.
